Title: Corporate Governance and conflicts of interest in the UK
Abstract
The paper aims to investigate the linkage between corporate governance determinants and their correlation with capital structure. We examine the relationship between corporate governance through specific determinants such as the board of directors’ size, the proportion of independent directors, the duality of the CEO and the size of the company. To achieve the objectives of this study, we use a sample of panel data extracted from 100 listed firms in London Stock Exchange for the period 2013 to 2016. Our results indicate that there is a significant positive correlation of firm size and board size with capital structure. Consistent with theoretical predictions, we find that there is a positive relation with board independence and CEO duality.
