Title: COVID-19 and bitcoin realized volatility
Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the impact of the pandemic disease called COVID-19 on Bitcoin prices. Our analysis is based on daily measurements of realized volatility which are calculated using intraday data for the period from 1 July 2017 to 28 February 2021. This time span includes the period before and after the outbreak of the pandemic disease. The findings clearly show a positive effect in the Bitcoin market during the presence of COVID-19 due to increasing realized volatility.
