It is necessary that we comprehend the significance of the motivation of the employees at the tourist units and all the tourist companies in general, as well as the need for providing motives, especially nowadays, under the threat of the financial crisis.

The research method being followed, is primarily quantitative, with the use of a structured questionnaire, which was written out by the researcher and is being presented at the appendage. The questionnaire was completed by 132 employees of the group of the islands of Cyclades and is looking into the miscellaneous dimensions of motivation and the influence of various motives on the performance of the employees, as well as the effect of the demographic factors on some miscellaneous motivation techniques. From the research findings, it is obvious that, the main motives which lead to the increase of the increase of the productivity of the employees is the creation of a pleasant work environment, the pay rise, their fair evaluation and the development prospects, the appreciation of their efforts and the possibility of training and personal development. Additionally, they support that the financial crisis caused alterations on the composition of the tourist population, affected the supply and demand of the tourist services and also affected negatively the work relationships which are being formed at the branch.
