Title: China – USA Relations and Offensive Realism

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine China-USA relations according to the theory of Offensive Realism. A review of relevant arguments and criticism of them will take place. Offensive Realism supports that China as a rising power will try a non-peaceful change in international relations and as in past, will become in the beginning a regional power and then will challenge USA in a war. USA will face the dilemma of “Thucydides Trap”.

Criticism about Offensive Realism supports that war between China-USA is possible but not a necessity for China rising and becoming a super-power. China faces many internal and external problems that will not help to be a global military power and change international balance.

Non-logical reactions and views will not help and theory of circle of power for USA must not guide political decisions. Also China uprising must not be supported by animal spirits and survive of the strongest.
