Title: Corporate governance and Social Responsibility in Greek companies: The case of Epirus Region

Abstract

The aim of this work is to investigate whether the Greek companies, are familiar with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) practices, apply and contribute towards society. The sample for the survey consists of 23 managers of companies on the Epirus region, Greece, in various sectors of activity (industry, trade, services) and 27 employees in their respective companies. The primary data collected through the distribution of two separate questionnaires addressed to the managers of the companies and to the employees.

According to the main results, most of the companies that apply CSR in Epirus region are industrial, S.A. corporations, and are claiming a leading position in the market. The executives judge as first priority, CSR actions relating to human resources. The employees believe that CSR strategies improve labor relations and they always help the company to take CSR decisions, because socially responsible companies offer them better wages, fair and equal treatment, policies to harmonize personal and professional lives, which makes them more efficient and better psychology especially if these practices concern the ages 40-60.

The companies in the Epirus region, apply to a very considerable extent CSR practices, aiming to increase their sales and improve relations within the business environment.
