Title: A Review of Business Process Modeling Methods and Systems
Abstract
Enterprise Modeling is crucial for the contemporary organizations in recognizing the basic elements that consist them, such as processes, organizational structures, or information systems. Modeling of business processes can ensure the compliance with the standards and improve the communication gap between different stakeholders. Business analysts use various methods to model different views of an enterprise. However, the complexity of modern organizations makes the use of modeling frameworks essential. A framework leads the enterprise to the effective modeling of its elements and the alignment with the IT through the whole enterprise architecture lifecycle. This paper presents the trends in the field of Enterprise Modeling and Business Process Modeling. First, the most important modeling methods are outlined and evaluated according to the views that each one of them can capture. Consequently, the paper provides an overview of the available modeling frameworks and assesses them using a set of criteria. Finally, the most popular business process modeling tools are highlighted.
