Title: Behavioral attitudes towards domestic use of water in Athens

Abstract

Water is an essential element for the maintenance of life and one of the pillars of social and economic development of each country. The population growth, the increased eater demand in agriculture, industry, tourism, etc have led to increased demands on water. In recent years, a shift from the management of supply, to the management of demand, with emphasis on the use and application of economic incentives. Under the management of water demand, the effort for domestic water savings is the most important step to shape a new attitude to water use. In order to establish effective programs for demand management and citizens to contribute towards water conservation is necessary to understand the factors that influence domestic water consumption. In this survey, using a questionnaire addressed to the residents of Athens, are explored the attitudes, public perceptions and citizens' habits on domestic water consumption issues and the emergence of the factors that act decisively in adoption of water-saving behaviors.
