Title: Application of Environmental Kuznets Curve to smoking habits
Abstract
The scientific literature has many works investigating the relationship between CO2 emissions and per capita income based on Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC). However, the idea of EKC can be used in other fields. In this work, the EKC methodology is applied to smoking habits, using data of all the countries of the world during a period of 22 year (1980-2012). The evolution of smoking prevalence (total, per sex and per age) and daily cigarettes consumption (total, per sex and per age) are analyzed as a function of the evolution of per capita income. The analysis concerns the global data, the data of the main geographical areas and those of specific countries.
