Title: Characterization of the non-emptiness of the uncovered set
Abstract
The uncovered set has proved to be of interest to both noncooperativeand cooperative game theory. Miller [15], McKelvey [14] and others haveshown that, under a variety of institutional settings, game theoretic behaviorleads to outcomes in the uncovered set. Our aim in this paper is to present atheoretical approach to the problem of uncovered set. More precisely, we definea general solution concept which has a representation in terms of choice frommaximal compete subrelations of an arbitrary binary relation. By using thisnew general solution concept, we define the notion of Θ-uncovered set whichwe characterrize. Finally, we characterize all the well known covering relationsin the literature.
