Title: The impact of terrorist acts on the tourism product of Greece
Abstract
Abstract
The terrorism term has become very familiar in recent years, and has established into our consciences as a negative act that brutally threatens the way of life of a large number of people. These adverse effects are not only applied to a small group of people or even to a specific region, but are capable of affecting entire countries, since all productive sectors are affected.
The purpose of this study is to find out how global terrorism affects Greece. We would like to find out how tourism demand in Greece is affected by terrorist attacks taking place abroad.
In our analysis we will highlight the tourism importance and will refer to terrorism, its causes and forms, and find out the relationship between these two concepts. Then we will try to find out if these extreme actions can have positive or negative effects in Greece tourist demand.
In order to achieve this purpose, we will collect data from the Greek statistical services on incoming tourism and compare it with data on terrorist acts committed abroad by the Global Terrosism Database (https://www.start.umd.edu/gtd/ ) during the same periods. In this way we will be able to draw some conclusions and find out if there is a connection between global terrorism and the Greek tourism product.
