Title: The Impact of the Primary Sector on GDP of Greece, an Econometric Approach
Abstract
The agricultural sector has always been one of the most important production sectors in the country of Greece. Its importance is multiple, both for the economy and for the Greek society. Agriculture has a decisive contribution to rural development. Although in recent years the participation of the agricultural sector in the Greek economy has decreased significantly, it remains at high levels as compared to that of other EU member states. The present paper studies the relationship between the gross domestic product (GDP) and the sectors of agriculture, industry and services in Greece for the period 1996-2020, including the financial crisis period and the pandemic COVID-19 period as well. A negative relationship between GDP and agriculture in Greece was revealed while the industry and services sector seem to be positively related to the country's GDP.
