Title: A comparative financial assessment for the Southern Europe Banks using alternative methods

Abstract

This paper presents a comparative financial assessment for the banking system of 3 Southern European countries  including Greece, Italy and Spain during the period 2004-2016 using alternative methods, namely the C.A.M.E.L.S. ratios and the PROMETHEE multi-criteria decision method. In particular, the published annual financial statements of the 4 systemic banks in Greece and the 3 major banks in Italy and Spain were analysed on a solo basis. By applying the two aforementioned assessment methods, comparative analyses were conducted for the above 3 countries, during the period before & after the economic crisis, producing thus very interesting results.
