Introduction: Problematic Internet Use (PIU) has become a prevalent societal issue, marked by an individual's inability to control their internet usage, which negatively affects their daily functioning. Investigating the potential mediating role of psychological distress in the relationship with unregulated internet use is essential.

Objectives: This study seeks to examine the links between problematic Internet use, psychological distress, and quality of life.

Methods: This cross-sectional study involved participants completing a structured questionnaire via Google Forms, using a Likert scale based on quantitative methodology. The K-6 Distress Scale and the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL) questionnaire were employed alongside questions addressing demographics and problematic internet use. The combination of these tools aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of internet use patterns and their relationship with psychological distress and demographic factors.

Results: Statistical analysis revealed significant relationships between psychological distress and variables such as age, education, employment status, and health, though no significant associations were found with place of residence or marital status. Similarly, problematic Internet use (PIU) was significantly associated with age, education, employment, marital status, and health, but not with place of residence. Quality of life was also correlated with age, employment status, and health, but not with marital status or education level. Additionally, a strong relationship was identified between PIU and psychological distress, with higher levels of PIU corresponding to increased psychological distress, emphasizing the link between excessive internet use and mental health.

Conclusions: This study offers valuable insights into the complex interactions between psychological distress, PIU, and quality of life, considering demographic factors. It highlights the need for comprehensive approaches to mental health that take into account individual behaviors and characteristics, with particular attention to the challenges of problematic internet use. Further research and targeted interventions are necessary to better address this issue.
